Venturing out of the vault into the post-apocalyptic wasteland of the Commonwealth is a jarring experience for any new player. One of the earliest narrative milestones you encounter is in the historic town of Concord, where the remnants of humanity struggle to survive. Fulfilling this mission sets the groundwork for faction alignment and unlocks core gameplay elements like power armor.

Entering the Museum of Freedom

As you approach the heart of Concord, the sounds of gunfire will draw you toward a large historic building. Outside the entrance, a group of hostile raiders is actively besieging a desperate group of trapped settlers. You must clear these initial threats on the street before you can safely slip inside the front doors.

Once you step into the main lobby, you will hear voices echoing from the upper floors of the building. Raiders have breached the interior defenses, requiring you to carefully clear each room as you ascend. Gathering ammunition and supplies from fallen enemies along the way is crucial for the challenges ahead.

Meeting the Minutemen and Securing the Core

At the top of the museum, you will finally meet Preston Garvey and his small group of weary survivors. He explains that their survival hinges on securing a nearby set of power armor located on the roof. However, the armor is currently completely drained of energy and requires a fresh power source to operate.

To fix this issue, you must descend into the building's basement level to locate a hidden generator. Using your lockpicking skills or a terminal password will grant access to the secure area containing a fusion core. Pulling this glowing core from the machinery provides the necessary spark to turn the tide of battle.

Utilizing the Roof Power Armor

With the fusion core in hand, you need to head straight up to the roof access door. Inserting the core into the abandoned T-45 power armor suits you up with massive defensive capabilities. Grab the nearby minigun ripped straight from the crashed vertibird to maximize your offensive output.

Leaping down from the roof puts you directly into the middle of a massive firefight on the streets below. A fresh wave of raiders will swarm the area, requiring heavy fire to eliminate efficiently. Managing your ammunition while targeting aggressive enemies is key to maintaining your defensive armor padding.

Surviving the Deathclaw Attack

Just when the street seems clear, a terrifying deathclaw will burst out from the subterranean civic access tunnels. This monstrous creature moves incredibly fast and can easily rip through your armor if you stay out in the open. Utilizing nearby buildings for cover allows you to shoot safely from doorways where the beast cannot enter.

Concentrating your minigun fire on the creature's vulnerable underbelly will bring it down much faster. Once the apex predator is defeated, clear out any remaining stragglers to officially secure the town of Concord. You can then return to the museum to receive the gratitude of the surviving faction members.

Claiming Rewards and Next Steps

Preston Garvey will thank you for your heroic intervention and offer valuable caps along with a signature weapon. The group will then begin their long trek toward the settlement of Sanctuary to rebuild their lives. Following them back allows you to unlock the extensive settlement building mechanics that define much of the game.

Completing this early quest establishes your status as a reliable ally in a dangerous world. It opens up future tactical options and introduces you to companion recruitment systems. Preparing your inventory after this victory sets a solid foundation for the remainder of your journey across the wasteland.
